The Kir Royale was one of the first classic cocktails I ever dared to make. It is a good one to start with since it only involves 2 ingredients – Creme de Cassis liqueur and sparkling wine. Creme de Cassis is a blackcurrant liqueur from the Burgundy region of France. To give this recipe a “local twist”, I have substituted the Field Stone Blackcurrant dessert wine for the Creme de Cassis liqueur. Field Stone estate winery is in Strathmore, Alberta, about 40 minutes east of Calgary. They were the 1st estate winery in Alberta. All of their wines are made of 100% Alberta fruit.
Recipe for one glass:
1 ounce Field Stone Blackcurrant Dessert wine
4 ounces Brut (dry) sparkling wine
2 – 3 fresh raspberries
In a champagne flute or white wine glass, pour 1 oz of Field Stone Blackcurrant Dessert wine. Then top with 4 oz of sparkling wine and add the fresh raspberries as a garnish. Easy and delicious any time of year, though especially romantic on Valentine’s Day.
