Two Pillars Brewery – Easy Peasy Lemon Saison

Reviewed on September 8, 2023

Two Pillars Brewery is Calgary’s smallest brewery. It is a 100L small batch nanobrewery. That translates to 2 kegs per brew. In August, they celebrated their 300th small batch! FOMO - Fear of Missing Out - is a real thing at Two Pillars, because when it is gone, it is often gone for good.

Belgian styled beer is the specialty at Two Pillars. Tasting Duvel and Delirium Tremens beer inspired owner Boaz Leung to create his flagship beer - the Golden Strong Blonde. Leung is self-taught and started off as a home brewer. Before getting into beer he worked as a car mechanic and in car sales. His mechanic background comes in handy, as there is always something that needs fixing at the brewery!

For Leung, the small batch system is a “brewers heaven” because it gives him the flexibility to do many different things. He bases all his beers around a recipe that is – aromatic, balanced and yeast forward. He has 2 approaches to making beer. With the 6 Core beers, the aim is to keep things consistent and with the Small Batch beers, he likes to be adventurous.

(Side Note - I love that the tasting note is a haiku poem written by one of the taproom staff.)
