Barossa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Reviewed on November 3, 2023
Who doesn’t love a good Cab! This one is from the famous Barossa Valley in south Australia. The Barossa Valley is home to some of Australia’s most expensive wines. Names like Penfolds, Henschke, and Rockford come to mind.
The Barossa Valley was settled by English and German settlers back in 1842. It is still home to some of the oldest vines in the world! It has cool, wet winters and dry, hot extended summers. Cabernet Sauvignon likes that because it buds late and needs an extended warm, dry season to fully ripen. It is usually one of the last grapes to be harvested.
I discovered the Barossa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon this summer when I was judging at the Alberta Beverage Awards. It is one of the “Judges Selection” in the Cabernet Sauvignon category. With the right conditions, Cabernet Sauvignon truly shines. When I taste this wine, I can tell that it is happy growing in the Barossa Valley. It is evident in the glass.
Barossa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 Tasting Note
Take a look at the colour! It is a vibrant deep ruby … almost a boysenberry in colour. On the nose, I am picking up aromas of dark fruits ooze from the glass – cassis, blackberry with a warm vanilla spice. Finally, the palate …. Juicy and full-bodied. It has good depth and power. Flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry, plums are woven amongst silky tannins.
